Michael Pumphrey, MS, CFP®, AFC®

Senior Associate Wealth Advisor

Michael was born in 1982 and raised in Bellaire, TX, graduating from Bellaire High School with honors. Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art and Biology cum laude from Claremont McKenna College and his Master of Science degree in Personal Financial Planning from Kansas State University with a Graduate Certificate in Financial Therapy.

Prior to joining Tanglewood, Michael had a career in education teaching woodworking and furniture design at several colleges/art centers across the country, as well as most recently teaching architectural and engineering design to high school students in Cy-Fair ISD. He has also worked as a college financial counselor for students and their parents.

Michael has earned his Accredited Financial Counselor® designation through Texas Tech University and is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional. He currently is pursuing becoming a Certified Financial Therapist (CFT-I™) professional to further develop his interest in the behavioral side of personal finance, as well as an Enrolled Agent to support his interest in tax planning.

In his free time, Michael enjoys volunteering with several organizations that offer financial coaching/literacy education. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Financial Planning Association of Houston. His hobbies include state and national park camping trips with his spouse.

Michael is excited to be a part of the team at Tanglewood to serve clients by empowering them financially to realize their goals.
